I think what Jesus was saying here is: “You can’t hoard life. You have to give it away.” You see, when you try and keep it all to yourself. Live only for yourself. Protect yourself. Keep from getting hurt. You end up just withering away. What was once vibrant and alive becomes dulled, dry, and smelly. God built us that way. We need to be outward focused.
It’s the giving, the doing, and the risking that adds vibrancy to our lives.
Things getting a little dull and boring for you? Feel like you’re in a rut?
Turn outward. Look around you. If you go far enough out, away from your routine you’ll see them. They’re the broken people. They’re the ones who have made big mistakes. They’ve hurt people. They’ve hurt themselves. They’ve backed themselves into lonely corners. They’re weathered and scarred.
When we give of ourselves to them. When we invest in their lives with no thought of ourselves. When we take a risk. That’s when we find ourselves.
Jesus said, “When you’ve done it unto the least of them, you’ve done it unto me.”
